Protecting & Restoring Your Smile

At Designer Smiles of Colorado, Dr. Maggie Aleksanyan will often use a dental crown to repair a broken or damaged tooth. Your natural-looking crown is attached to your tooth, restoring it to full function and protecting it from further damage.

Reasons to Get a Dental Crown

There are many situations where Dr. Maggie might recommend a dental crown, such as:

  • To restore a tooth damaged by trauma or decay
  • To fix a cracked or broken tooth
  • To restore the shape of a tooth
  • To protect the shape of  a tooth
  • To protect and retire a tooth following a root canal therapy
  • To restore the color of severely stained teeth

The Dental Crown Process at Designer Smiles of Colorado

First Appointment — Preparing Your Tooth & Collecting Impressions

The first step in the dental crown process involves Dr. Maggie administering a local anesthetic to numb the tooth and surrounding tissues. Then, she’ll collect initial impressions and use a guide to determine the exact shade of the tooth so that the dental laboratory can fabricate an accurate restoration.

In order for the crown to fit correctly, Dr. Maggie will reshape the tooth by removing very precise amounts of the tooth and filling material. After that, she’ll collect another round of impressions so that the lab has the necessary information to create your stunning, custom-fitted crown.

Second Appointment — Seating Your Permanent Crown

Once the lab sends us your crown, you’ll return to our office so Dr. Maggie can complete your restoration. She’ll numb your smile with a local anesthetic and then attach your crown using special dental adhesive. The whole placement process is quick and painless.

Long-Lasting Dental Crowns

At Designer Smiles of Colorado, we use a high-grade ceramic material known as porcelain to craft our crowns. It’s a durable, tooth-colored material that’s trusted throughout dental professionals.

Dental crowns typically last about 15 years, but they’ve been known to last up to 30 years when given the right care.
